FAQs

If you are considering operating a painting and decorating business in Western Australia, the law mandates that any painting contractor invoicing for painting and decorating work valued over $1,000 must be registered.
You must have completed the CPC30620 Certificate III in Painting and Decorating through an apprenticeship or hold a relevant superseded qualification equivalent to an apprenticeship, or have five years of experience in carrying out painting work. In these cases, you will only need to take at Business and Estimation courses to become registered. If you do not meet the requirements, such as having an overseas qualification that only partially equates to the CPC30620, then you will need to complete all four courses (Business, Estimation, Surface Preparation, and Trade Test) to fulfill the registration requirements in WA. If you are unsure about your work experience or qualification requirements, you can get in touch with the Building and Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety.
